Key plans under way for Toowoomba |
|
Saturday, 24 October 2009 16:30 |
We are currently working with Toowoomba City Council to deliver a Regional Strategic Sport and Recreation Plan and an Open Space Network Strategy.
The recent local government reform process was particularly challenging for the eight councils that merged to create the Toowoomba Regional Council. The amalgamation has meant the need to understand and rationalise eight different policies across all council functions, including those relating to sport, recreation and open space.
Our aim in preparing the Regional Strategic Sport and Recreation Plan and an Open Space Network Strategy is to recognise the culture and identity of each of the more than 30 communities now part of the regional council.
Initial consultation has taken place and we’re now set to start another round of community feedback. |

A new plan to get the Redlands community more active |

Redland City Council Physical Activity Plan
The key aim of this project is help get the Redlands community more active. We’re working with Council to develop a physical activity plan that will provide a coordinated, city-wide approach to physical activity planning across a range of council and community programs.
The plan will also provide a benchmark to enable council to measure the health and wellbeing of the community in the future – and the tools to do so.
This project involves community surveys, site inspections and an analysis of barriers to participation in physical activity. |

Supporting sport and recreation planning in Queensland's west |
|
Saturday, 24 October 2009 16:24 |
|
We’re currently working in western Queensland to deliver sport and recreation plans for:
- Barcaldine Shire Council
- Blackall-Tambo Regional Council
- Maranoa Regional Council
- Richmond Shire Council
- Winton Shire Council
The plans will provide strategic documents to consider sport and recreation in each community’s parks, sporting clubs and sporting facilities.
As part of these exciting projects, we’re undertaking extensive community engagement with local sporting clubs, Councillors and the broader community.
Ultimately, the plans will give each council a plan to address and improve sport and recreation in their respective communities. |

One of our favourite partners, Dr Brianna Fjeldsoe has just been awarded two extinguished prizes at the 7th National Physical Activity Conference (Be Active 09).
She was voted the Best New Investigator in Health Promotion and was also joint winner of the Best Paper in Health Promotion.
These awards recognises Bri’s outstanding work in developing, implementing and evaluating a broad-reach intervention to increase physical activity among disadvantaged postnatal women.
ROSS Planning has been honoured to work with Bri and looks forwards to continuing to develop our relationship. |

We welcome Cass Gaisford to our ROSS Planning team. Cass has recently returned to Brisbane after spending six months touring, with the majority of her time spent exploring South America. Cass comes to us from Conics and prior to that worked with the Department of Environment and Heritage section within the City of Cape Town.
We look forward to utilising Cass’ landscape architecture skills and look forward to tapping into her environmental knowledge and experience. |
